Deterioration of the immune system results in increased susceptibility to illnesses. The signs of malfunctioning immune system are:

bullet

frequent infections and slow wound healing

bullet

allergies

bullet

chronic inflammation

bullet

digestive issues (irritable bowel, yeast infestation, colitis)

bullet

chronic illnesses (arthritis, asthma, eczema)

bullet

auto-immune diseases

bullet

cancer

bullet

skin and other local and systemic infections

Immune system consists of a group of physical structures such as organs (spleen), tonsils, white blood cells, bone marrow, lymphatic vessels, specialized substances in the blood, etc. All the organ and tissue systems orchestrate elimination of pathogens.

Conventional medicine fights disease by prescribing drugs, surgery, radiation, and other modalities but  it often overlooks the inherent ability of the immune system to fight  diseases. Healthy, properly functioning immune system ensures quick recovery from bacterial and viral insults and thus is very important for good health. The reason one person contracts  a flu and the other does not often lies in the state of the immune system. Weak immune system could be a result of  a variety of factors, both internal and external: genetic predisposition, poor diet, high levels of stress, overuse of antibiotics and chemicals. Poorly functioning immune system is defined as both under- and hyper-active (auto-immune conditions).

Nutrients and herbal remedies that enhance the function of the immune system.(For dosing information and appropriate application, please, consult a health professional.)

Herbs: astragalus, bayberry, fenugreek, hawthorn, horehound, licorice, red clover, echinacea, golden seal, garlic, onions, mushrooms--stimulate anti-viral and anti-tumor defense (maitakee, reishi, shiitake, and others)

Nutrients: healthy amount of organic protein (source of amino acids), zinc, vitamins A, B6 and B12, C, E, folic acid, selenium, iron, copper, and essential fatty acids (omega-3), modified citrus pectin, acidophilus and other probiotics.

Homeopathy: Tonsilla compositum, Thyrodeia comp., Ubichinon comp., Coenzyme comp., etc.

Foods rich in nutrients: whey powder, shiitake mushrooms, berries, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, brewer's yeast, fermented food, onion, apples, and many others.

Tips for keeping your immune system healthy:

-Eat diet consisting of fresh food, without additives, low in sugars and saturated fats, include proteins in each meal to keep the insulin balance and do not overeat.

-Try fasting for a day (vegetable juices with low sugar content) every two weeks to help your body get rid of toxins.

-Do not go to bed exhausted and get sufficient amount of sleep ( immune system undergoes regeneration when asleep).

-Learn to deal with stress and relax (live in the present moment, learn to live with what is).

-Exercise regularly and in moderation (over-exercise suppresses immune activity).

-Do not smoke and drink  alcohol in moderation.

Other Considerations:

-stress (both emotional and physical=doing too much, intense sport activities) is probably the biggest culprit in our society--high levels of cortisol over a long period of time depresses the immune system

-Marijuana use weakens the immune system, THC alters the normal immune response, making the white blood cells 40% effective than normal.

-Mercury filling and heavy metal toxicity have been linked to a weakened immune system (to detect levels of heavy metals, consider laboratory testing).

-Under-active thyroid and low adrenal function could be a cause of immune deficiency.

-Food and environmental allergies put stress on the immune system.

-Psycho-emotional states directly effect the state of the immune system (positive states enhance the function of the immune system, negative states suppress the function of the immune system).
